On May 28th 30 CCCTS cyclists gathered in Barrie to start a 7-day cycling tour of Ontario south of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay - cottage and vacation country for Canada's largest metropolitan area.
Our tour leaders, Dave and Dale Featherstonhaugh, Geoff Kennedy, and Nel Ahmed did a stellar job of designing a tour with multiple routes for each day, quiet roads, and some spectacular scenery. And they convinced the cycling gods to provide us with 7 days of blue skies, light winds, and perfect temperatures! No jackets required.
We explored several interesting regions; the western shore of Lake Simcoe and the city of Orillia, the historic Huronia region around Midland and Penetanguishene, the Georgian Bay/Wasaga Beach coastline, the Blue Mountain escarpment near Collingwood, and the Big Bay coastline near Owen Sound.
For a trip report though the lens of butter tarts and other delights, you can read Tim's Tasty Tart Tour
Georgian Bay is Canada’s butter tart region and it was butter tart season! With so many bake shops selling seemingly infinite variations of butter tarts, we just had to sample as many as possible and engage in heated debate as to who had the best butter tart. We like to think that the butter tarts and the craft beer were offset by all the cycling.
